A car insurance company of all people has created an infographic that illustrates the benefits of not driving. The best part is that telecommuting is catching on. The infographic shows what would happen if it caught on faster. It does not quantify the impact of workers getting rid of their cars altogether.


Last year, in the process of writing a marketing white paper for a client who makes technologies that enable telecommuting, I was surprised at the many benefits that would accrue from a very feasible increase in working from the virtual office. In addition to saving time on the road and money in the tank, working from home leads to higher productivity and healthier workers. And of course there’s the reduction in carbon dioxide emissions. The list goes on. For my research I had to drudge through government statistics and crunch numbers in Excel. This graphic sums up many of the same benefits, without the pain:
