Book Reviews: Info for Energy Authors, Publishers and Publicists

Should we review your book about energy and sustainable business? Here's most of what you need to know, and how to contact us for more information.

Writing a book and getting it published is a monumental task. Please accept our heartfelt congratulations!

When we review books

We review books prior to their release. If your book (any edition) is available on Amazon today, hooray! The need for reviews soon will be filled by your readers; however, the window of interest in editorial reviews will close before we could contribute a write-up or quote of value.

What books we review

We review forthcoming books and manuscripts that are relevant to our non-technical business audience, about various aspects of energy. We review books about any region, as long as the book will be sold in the U.S.

Here's a preliminary self-test of whether your book topic will be of interest to Energy Priorities readers:

Yes:

  • Buildings -- green building, building automation, energy management, data center energy, and other areas related to commercial real estate or home-building.
  • Renewable Energy -- how commercial, industrial, multi-family and other facilities can put renewable energy sources to work today, and what's over the horizon.
  • Energy Policy -- public policies that affect energy-conscious businesses and their suppliers. Our focus is on incentives and requirements regarding electricity supply, delivery and use, and on climate-change policy.
  • Energy Business -- business literature for companies involved in developing and commercializing new energy technologies. Our focus is primarily on demand-side products and related services for commercial, industrial, multi-family and other facilities.
  • Smart Energy -- distributed generation for prime, premium, and standby power. We also examine the interface between buildings and the grid for purposes such as demand response and time-of-use billing. Only on rare occasions do we write about the utility industry.
  • Clean Energy -- hydrogen fuel cells (stationary and transportation), hybrid vehicles, and other developments in the effort to reduce business impact on climate change.

No:

  • Peak oil, petropolitics, energy security, energy independence, and related concepts solely about petroleum.
  • Green living, 101 ways to save energy in your home, odorless composting made easy, and related concepts solely for consumer/residential audiences.
  • Solar power made easy, how to build your own wind turbine, make your Prius a plug-in, and related concepts solely for consumers and hobbyists.
  • Selecting low-VOC paints and recycled carpets for your next building, and related concepts that do not have electric energy (efficiency, renewables, passive solar, etc.) as a main topic.
  • HVAC and the coefficient of performance, green remodeling techniques explained, and related material written solely for technical professionals or trades.

We're personally interested in all of these topics, but Energy Priorities serves a very specific purpose in the publishing world. If the "No" list describes your book, there are other publications that would be much better for your book and we recommend that you pursue those publications instead. If your title is aimed at homeowners or consumers, you're in luck, because these days almost every mainstream consumer publication has a quota of "green" content.

How to start

We read and respond to e-mail requests. Send us a blurb and specifically state that you want us to review the book. Include the planned publication date in your e-mail.

We'll look at any energy-related book you want to send to us. If you feel that we can fully understand the value of your book only once we have it in hand, we understand, please see below. Sending a book is no guarantee that we'll review it. We don't return books or unsolicited manuscripts except by prior arrangement.
