Business Magazine "Energy Priorities" Celebrates One Year Anniversary
First "hybrid" publication on energy combines best qualities of magazine and blog.
April 21, 2005

SEATTLE April 21, 2005 -- One year ago on Earth Day, Energy Priorities(TM) [www.energypriorities.com] magazine began as a resource for businesses who want to be more informed and responsible energy users.
Today, Energy Priorities covers demand-side electric power technologies and practices, such as renewable energy and energy efficiency, for its primary audience of business owners, property managers, architects and builders.
"Businesses need ways to learn about smart energy concepts and technologies," says Denis Du Bois, founder and Editor of Energy Priorities. "The goal of Energy Priorities is to help businesses decipher which technologies and practices are realistic and economically viable."
Energy Priorities was among the first "hybrid" magazines, integrating the best features of a weblog into an online magazine format. The blog entries include references to relevant information in other publications.
"As a magazine we adhere to high standards of well-researched, factual articles that readers can trust," says Du Bois. "As a blog we give our readers an opportunity to find valuable information in publications they don't subscribe to. It also creates a platform for discussion about energy-related news and events."
Case studies, news articles and down-to-earth ideas for businesses are organized into departments for ease of reference. Readers can comment on any article in an open forum.
The magazine also supports energy technology entrepreneurs and their investors by reporting on energy policy legislation and industry news. Company profiles and news of research breakthroughs are provided to supplement the industry media. The "Energy Policy" department provides updates on major changes in national legislation, as well as perspectives on the effects of local and global policies.
The magazine publishes an annual ranking of the top five actions businesses can take in the coming year to be more responsible energy users. "Energy Priorities for 2005" was published in January, and is one of the magazine's most popular articles.
The founder and Editor of Energy Priorities is Denis Du Bois, a veteran writer, technologist and marketing expert. He is active in the energy industry, most notably in organizing MIT Enterprise Forums on energy since 2003. Du Bois is an energy-conscious business owner and a solar power user based in Seattle, Washington.
