The Massachusetts Technology Collaborative (MTC) has launched a new US$5 million rebate program to help consumers, businesses, and institutions buy renewable energy systems.

The Massachusetts Technology Collaborative (MTC) has launched a new US$5 million rebate program to help consumers, businesses, and institutions buy renewable energy systems.
Through the rebate program, MTC wants to double the number of Massachusetts buildings and homes with solar electric systems. It also wants to create solar industry jobs in the state, according to an article in the Boston Globe Technology section.
MTC has offered rebates previously, with considerable success. Executive Director Mitchell Adams, in a release unveiling the latest program, said, "In the past two years alone, we exceeded the total number of solar systems installed in Massachusetts during the previous decade."
MITRE Corporation won a $415,000 rebate in early 2005 to install building-integrated solar glass, conventional solar power and energy efficiency features in its new MITRE Center building. Harvard Business School won an MTC rebate in 2003. The school was awarded $143,500 to install a $365,300 photovoltaic system on the roof of its fitness center.

Mass Tech is administrator of the Renewable Energy Trust Fund, which is seeking applications for the Large Onsite Renewables Initiative Feasibility Study and Design & Construction Grants. Round 1 has $3.5 million available. Here's a link to the MTC page about the Large Onsite Renewables Initiative:

Is there a rebate in this for me? I'm looking to remodel my barn into a quilt studio and would like to use solar energy. C.S.

Solar power -- I am a retired firefighter and volunteer for Habitat for Humanity in Massachusetts.I want do provide solar power for our new homeowners in Boston an other places in the State. It doesn't have to be much, just a couple of panels to subsidize hot water or electricity.
