Power-Gen RE Conference to Welcome Renewables to the Mainstream

The third annual Power-Gen Renewable Energy conference is, for renewable energy professionals, practically a mandatory education and networking event. Last year's conference attracted 1,500 delegates and 100 exhibitors. Following strong interest in biomass and fuels at the 2005 event, Power-Gen has added the word "Fuels" to its moniker.

The 2006 Power-Gen Renewable Energy and Fuels conference and expo opens on Monday and runs three days, through 12, 2006. Energy Priorities will be covering the event.

Power-Gen RE 2005: Dr. Dan Arvizu (above), newly appointed Director of NREL, presented a challenge in his keynote address: "We in the renewables industry need to think about what will be our flagship." Power-Gen RE 2006: The flagship might be renewable fuels.

The "and fuels" part of the title was added this year, perhaps in acknowledgement of the delegates' interest in biomass and fuels in 2005, or perhaps in anticipation of the Bush "addicted to oil" speech in January.

Last year's conference attracted 1,500 delegates and 100 exhibitors. The conference is for engineers and procurement people from utilities, industry and transportation. Exhibitors range from small R&D companies to the largest players in the industry.

Conference sessions are again organized into four tracks: renewable energy technologies; market development; regulatory and financing trends; and fuels and hydrogen.

The keynote sessions will feature executives from EPRI, Booz Allen Hamilton, GE Energy, the Western Governors' Association, Vestas, Konarka, and others, moderated by Michael Eckart of ACORE.

Power-Gen Renewable Energy is presented by the American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE) and Penwell, publishers of Power Engineering magazine.
