China Energy Venture Backed by DFJ (VentureWire)

Miartech Inc., a Chinese start-up, just raised $6 million in venture capital from Draper Fisher Jurvetson's Dragonfund for its BPL chip.

Miartech is a semiconductor company with operations in the U.S. and China. Its products include advanced chips for broadband over powerlines (BPL) also known in the UK as powerline communications (PLC).

Systems based on Miartech's proprietary BPL technologies are being field-tested by multiple customers, according to information on DFJ's site.

DFJ made headlines by establishing its Asia venture arm, known as DFJ Dragonfund, to invest in Chinese startups.

Miartech's web site is "under construction" as of this blogging, but the link is provided for future reference.

DFJ seems to be searching for its niche in the energy market, having invested in a half dozen companies in clean coal, storage, biodiesel, and photovoltaics developer Konarka Technologies.
