Energy Priorities Thought Leaders LinkedIn Group

Great minds like to think. Members can see who they know among Energy Priorities readers, and connect with like minds, in our Thought Leaders group at LinkedIn. Founded in October 2007 and already about to top 1,000 members!

Energy Priorities has partnered with LinkedIn to create the Thought Leaders Group, an exclusive professional network.

Group Respect
If you feel that any individual is abusing their membership in this LinkedIn Group, including the discussions, please report it to the Group Manager immediately.

Thought Leaders was formed in late 2007, and it's developing into a strong network of smart business leaders, entrepreneurs and investors who share common concerns: energy costs, reliability, climate change and the bottom line.

What's LinkedIn?

LinkedIn is an online networking tool that helps you connect with former colleagues and friends, as well as make new connections to experts, partners and new hires. Think of it as an extension of the in-person networking you do at executive groups and conferences.

What's a LinkedIn Group?

LinkedIn Groups are popular for magazines such as Red Herring and Forbes, alumni clubs like Harvard and MIT (plus corporate "alumni" like ex-IBM and ex-Oracle), and angel investor organizations.

What happens when I join?

There aren't any meetings for our LinkedIn group, but the discussion list is active every day. Members can make valuable new contacts, reconnect with past colleagues, and share their thoughts on energy issues. (That's not all -- read Guy Kawasaki's top 10 ways to use LinkedIn, or LinkedIntelligence's growing list of contributed ideas.)

On LinkedIn, a Group works like any contact you have in common with others. You can connect with other members by asking for an introduction via LinkedIn. See which potential employer or partner thinks like you. Ask a question. Or simply let the green and gold icon show your colleagues that you're an energy thought leader.

"Thought Leaders" is provided at no cost. The basic (free) LinkedIn membership is all you need.

We'd like to hear your story about using the group.

Instructions to join:

1. Subscribe to Energy Priorities (free). On the confirmation page you'll see a special invitation link. Click it. A new browser window will open for you at LinkedIn's site.

2. Then click the "Join this Group" button. (Use your usual LinkedIn password if requested.) That's it!

3. The Energy Priorities Thought Leaders group logo will appear in your profile after your request is reviewed and approved by the Group Manager. (Energy Priorities subscribers are approved automatically.)

Then you can see who else is in the group. Your LinkedIn contacts in the group will be listed first, then those with one degree of separation, then two degrees. This is similar to what you see when you add someone to your network and view their connections: Limited information is available about each member.

Where you take it from here is up to you. Find valuable new contacts and reconnect with past associates in your industry or region. LikedIn facilitates the introductions for you.

As with all LinkedIn contacts, your email address is never public. It will remain private until you decide to provide it to another Thought Leader.

You can decide whether to allow other Energy Priorities members to contact you directly. This is on by default and can be turned off in the group "Settings" page.

You can decide whether to display the Energy Priorities logo on your profile to non-Energy Priorities members. This is on by default and can be turned off in the group "Settings" page.
