The Demand Response and Advanced Metering Coalition (DRAM) trade association is changing its name to the Demand Response and Smart Grid Coalition (DRSC).
DRSG Chris King said the new name reflects the breadth of smart grid products services provided by DRSC's members.
"Our members are the ones that will be providing the foundational elements with which the smart grid will be created," King said.
Google is one of four new members in the association. Google's large-scale power use and GE partnership have raised its profile in the energy industry media. Through its philanthropic arm, Google.org, the company invests resources and awards grants in the areas of energy and climate change.
The other new members are CPower (formerly ConsumerPowerline), Conservation Services Group and Corporate Systems Engineering. All three provide energy services to businesses or utilities.
DRSG is a trade association for companies that provide products and services in the areas of demand response, smart meters and smart grid technologies.
